Waxwings in Macc

Postby phil cheek » Mon Feb 02, 2009 1:04 pm

I`ve just had a quite rare & very beatiful sighting of around 50 waxwings at the end of my road.
While this weather holds they may hang around the area & are easy to see if you get lucky.
They move as a group from tree to tree stripping berries & are quite tame, they`ll tolerate you standing under the tree they`re feeding in.They may come into your garden to feed on hawthorn, rowan etc and will take fruit such as apples and need access to water.
They are stunning little creatures, starling sized but lighter in colour, with a large crest and beautiful markings in red, yellow & white.
Enjoy them.
