Pie and Peas 5 Mile Race and Pre-entry for Congleton Half

Postby STEVE LOMAS » Thu Aug 04, 2011 9:05 pm

Dear All,
Wednesday night’s Pie and Peas 5 Mile Race at Moulton, near Northwich, produced some more very good results from the Harriers in a race of a very high standard for both men and ladies.

The full results are as follows;
http://www.valeroyalathleticclub.co.uk/ ... esults.pdf

The race was the penultimate Cheshire Grand Prix Road Race of the year and the latest in the Club Championship Road Race series.

The route had changed from previous years due to repair work taking along the paths of the River Weaver which the previous route followed. Despite the nature of the series’ mentioned above, the race route was a mixture of road and trail paths interspersed with some stiles. Half way along the course there was a testing hill.

Wednesday was a fairly hot day for Cheshire but by the time of the race, as the sun was starting to go down, a lot of the heat had disappeared and there was the emergence of a cooling breeze for the runners’.

Amongst the Harriers’, there have been a few names such as Philip Shering, Dan Harle and David Larkin, who have begun, this year, to race regularly for the Club in events such as this one and it is noticeable in this race how much they have improved through the year. Mark Wheelton is also returning to form after injury.

The Club is proud to have some of the very elite runners in Cheshire and it seems that in the last few races, Mark Walker has now established himself at that level. Mark was well supported by Chris Bentley last night and the men’s team - despite missing several regular members due to holiday - will have racked up another set of useful points for the Grand Prix series.

The ladies team are currently plagued by injury and holiday absence but the two members who ran last night, Sarah Harris and Helen Evans, finished 4th and 6th respectively and so will have helped to keep the Harriers near the top of the ladies GP table.

A summary of the results are as follows;

Overall 1st place: Daniel Cliffe of University of Birmingham 25:44
Overall 1st lady: Rebecca Craig of Vale Royal AC 30:55
Overall 1st vet: Stuart Doyle of Vale Royal AC 27:33
Overall 1st lady vet (F35):
Diane Mitson of South Cheshire Harriers 33:01

Harriers results;

Mark Walker 28:39 (15th place)
Chris Bentley 30:38 (30th place)
Sarah Harris 33:09 (4th lady and 2nd L35)
Helen Evans 33:27 (6th lady)
Steve Lomas 34:17
Philip Shering 36:31
Daniel Harle 36:54
Mark Wheelton 37:11
David Larkin 40:25

The Cheshire GP table will soon be updated on the Cheshire AA website;
www.cheshireaa.com and the Club Championship table will soon be updated and available to see on the Harriers’ Club website.

The next Club Champs Road Race is the Great Warford 10 on Sunday, 14th August at 10.00am.

As a lot of members will know, the race has great pb potential and attracts high quality runners from a wide area and will be a good test for the Harriers’ team. There is good parking and the multi-lap course is very spectator friendly. Though not guaranteed it should be possible to enter on the day.

After this, the next series’ (GP and Club Champs) race is the Sutton 6 10K (near Chester) on Sunday, 18th September at 11.00am.

Entry details are here;

The Congleton Half Marathon is another Club Championship race for 2011 and the race normally takes place with a lot of Harriers’ involved. It is to be staged this year on Sunday, 9th October at 9.30am. Please note that the race is pre-entry only - via on-line - this year.
