Great Warford 10 Mile Road Race results

Postby STEVE LOMAS » Sun Aug 14, 2011 4:21 pm

Dear All,
The Great Warford 10 Mile Road Race was staged today. It was the latest in this year’s Club Road Race Championship and it turned out to be a great day for the Harriers’ both as a team and for many individuals.

The race raised over £2,000 for the David Lewis Centre, which is a home for disabled children.

Race conditions were very good, dry but with cloud cover and a light breeze. The David Lewis Centre is a very good base for such a race and the route is mainly flat and on quiet roads. The race was very well organised by Wilmslow RC and the runners enjoyed the support of the many spectators and marshalls. 254 runners completed the race.

The overall results are here;

The Harriers’ won the men’s team prize! The first three home from Macclesfield made up this team, these being James Noakes, Mark Walker and Chris Bentley and they each won a bottle of wine.

Colin Ardron set a new Club record at the race, for the V65 category, overtaking times that Dave Jackson has previously set at that category. Colin won an extremely closely fought contest within the V65 category at this race.

Throughout the Harriers’ results, there were several category winners and several pb’s.

A summary of the results are as follows;

Overall race winner:
Paul Lockwood of Wakefield District Harriers, 54:04

Overall ladies race winner and 1st vet lady:
Sally Keugher of Stockport Harriers, 1:05:29

Overall first vet:
Stuart Doyle, 56:14

Harriers’ results;
James Noakes 56:52 (4th place, overall 2nd vet and new pb)
Mark Walker 58:25 (8th place and new pb)
Chris Bentley 1:02:12 (16th place)
John Mooney 1:03:29 (26th place and 1st V50)
Steve Lomas 1:10:15

Iona Cummings 1:16:21 (9th lady and new pb)
Daniel Harle 1:16:21 (new pb)
Colin Ardron 1:18:22 (1st V65 and new V65 Club record)
Fiona Wilson* 1:25:10 (3rd L50)
Dave Jackson 1:35:34 (3rd V70)

*Fiona was 3rd L50 despite sustaining an injury at 8.5 miles and limping home.

Chris Harbron will shortly update the Club Championship table and it will be published on the Club website. After the Great Warford race, James Noakes will maintain his lead in the table, closely followed by Mark Walker, Andrew Lamont, Chris Harbron and Chris Bentley.

However, several other members have also contributed to the men’s team performing very well in various road races through the year.

The Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Trail Series has now finished. The final race was at Cheddleton on Thursday, 11th August. Approx 6 miles.

The results were as follows;
Pete Nield 38:50 (8th place)
Julian Brown 39:18 (10th place)
Neil Murphy 46:52 (59th place)

Also, a reminder that this Tuesday’s seniors’ training - led by Sue Rowson - will be based at Macclesfield Forest Visitors’ Centre (Trentabank, near Langley, SJ961712) at 6.30pm.
This is instead of the normal Tuesday session at the track whilst it is being refurbished.

Finally, there has been a lot of interest in the meeting scheduled for tomorrow. This is to discuss possible changes to the Club’s racing series’. Everyone is welcome to attend in order to give their own ideas on the matter.
The meeting is at 8.00pm at Sutton Hall

Best regards,
Steve
