Northern Road Relays and Sutton 6

Postby STEVE LOMAS » Mon Aug 22, 2011 4:07 pm

Dear All,

We are trying to raise teams for the Men’s Northern Road Relays which take place on the afternoon of Saturday, 24th September.

This year they take place quite locally at Warrington. It is 5 years since the men were able to raise a team to compete in any type of road relay event and we are the only major Cheshire club not to field road relay teams during this period.

There is no entry fee for the event, the Club will pay the entry fee.

Members should be clear that there is no requirement for any entrants to be a certain ability standard or a certain age. It is a chance to compete for the Club in a team event against other northern clubs who will also have teams of very varied abilities. Ages of those competing in the event range from 16 to 80.

No team performance of ours would be a disgrace in such an event!

However, it is a chance to view at close hand, when not competing on one’s own leg, some of the performances of top athletes from across the north.

Teams comprise of 6 members and each leg is approximately 6K. Clubs are allowed to enter more than one team and so if we can enter at least two teams that would be great for the Harriers’.

Please consider entering, it is important for the Club’s standing that we should field teams in such an event. If one is considering entering, please just plan to enjoy taking part in the event and not consider it an ordeal where one should feel under pressure to perform particularly well.

Event details are here;

For those that receive my link e-mail concerning this event then please reply to me if you wish to take part (we can arrange shared transport to and from Warrington). Otherwise, please reply to this forum post.

The Sunday before the relay event (18th September), it is the Sutton 6 (actually a measured 10K). This is based at the village of Guilden Sutton, near Chester. It is the final Cheshire Grand Prix event of the year.

The Harriers’ men have a great chance to finish the season in third place in the GP table. Hopefully, we will have a strong squad for this race. If we have a big presence at the race then not every performance will score points for the team (just the first 6). However, a large squad gives confidence to all the team and is much appreciated by those who do score points on behalf of the Club.

The Sutton 6 is a long established race. It is very well organised by West Cheshire AC and is relatively cheap to enter. There is good parking and it is a good race for spectating, being multi-lap.

There is a slight hill towards the end but it is a fast course overall.
Entry details are here (it is best to enter early);
