Boxing Day Handicap Race

Postby Mike Nelson » Sat Dec 15, 2007 8:55 pm

The annual Boxing Day Handicap will take place on Wednesday 26 December with the first group starting at 11.00am. Providing that the weather is not too icy the course will be the usual hilly 4 mile route starting close to the St Dunstan Inn in Langley. In the event of icy conditions we will opt for a short off-road route through Macclesfield forest, so bring some off road shoes just in case.

Entry is FREE, so what better opportunity could there be to work off some of that turkey and mince pies. :D

There will be no prizes this year, however, we hope to arrange for some light food to be laid on at the St Dunstan afterwards.

If you would like to enter please reply to this post and we will carry out a detailed scientific analysis of your performance over the last 12 months to diligently calculate your handicap (i.e. pretty random!!). A list of start times will be published on the web before Boxing Day. Alternatively just turn up on the morning of the race and register then, although be warned, the handicapping may be even more random on the day!

If anybody would like to marshal on the day, let me know by replying to this post.

Regards,
Mike

I'll give it a go Mike.

The usual format is to bring a prize as entry fee. First home takes first pick of the prizes. This has always worked well in the past.

Barbara ,it was great to see you running the fell handicap today.I think the ONLY time I`ve passed you in a race was a Boxing Day handicap when you were very pregnant with one of your kids. How long ago was that, given they`re now cooking your dinner????
I`m away on Boxing Day,so have fun while I`m sunning myself in sunny Bournemouth!

Boxing Day

Postby Rachael » Fri Dec 21, 2007 1:59 am

Like the photo Phil!

Hoping to make it on Boxing Day - & hopefully convince my brother to join us - although last time he ran a race with me it was Macc half (and he found it a bit hilly living (&running) in Oxford). So will turn up on the day & will think about suitable handicap suggestion for my brother - i have no doubt that i won't be able to beg lenience for not being able to walk for 3 days post the fell handicap!

Thanks to all who attended & especially to Mike Nelson who did the great majority of the work as I am still ill & full of cold. Bob Lynch turned out for time keeping at the finish - what would the club do without him !. Thanks Bob.
James Sherrat won by a clear margin conning the handicaper by arriving with a box of tissues in hand protesting a terrible snotty head cold. This meaning he would barely be able to place one foot in front of another thus greatly needing of a generous handicap. An OSCAR winning performance that will not be permitted to happen again. Next year James can expect a convicts ball & chain attached to his ankle.
Best wishes for great running in 08 to all.
