Weekend away in April 2017

Postby Julie Gardner » Tue Dec 06, 2016 11:53 am

I am thinking of organising a club weekend away in April to coincide with the races below. The Anniversay Waltz is within the grasp of most of the club fell runners. It is a fantastic route and a good introduction to running on the Lakeland fells. Both races are well subscribed to, so doubtful you will ever be alone.

At this moment, if anyone is interested then can they let me know so I can have a feel of numbers and the size of accommodation to look for. The set up will be similar to the British relays in Scotland. If bringing partners or children include them in your reply. Entires for both events usually open at the end of January.

Thank you for everyone whose replied. A couple of people have emailed me asking if it is compulsory to do the two races mentioned, in order to have a weekend away. I don't think my posting was clear, and yes anyone can join the club weekend away.

I have provisionally booked a place which can take 18 plus optional 2. I cant confirm for defo since there is a bit of a problem with a leaking pipe outside the property. I should know in the next two weeks. It would be great if we can use it since it is the northern lakes and convenient for "back of Skiddaw", legs 1 and 5 of BGR and for mountain bikers, there is Whinlatter close by. Pub is a mile from the property and Cockermouth (home of Jennings brewary) is the nearest town. A very fine town I might add and a breath of fresh air from the usual "honey pots".

I'll put the AW in the club champs and the TWA (if enough choose this). Not sure whether I can get up for this. Done the AW 4 times a great race with fod and a beer thrown in,

Julie asked me to post this message as she couldn't get on the server:

Unfortunately the accommodation that I had reserved is closing with immediate effect...that is the bad news.  The good news is that I have reserved Fisher-Gill camping barn at Thirlmere for the number of people who have shown interest.  We have 1 place left.  There was other accommodation to rent for the weekend, but I doubt very much if we could have got 24 or 56 people interested from the club. I do have to point out that the ten bunk beds are all in one room and this may not be for you.  Details can be found on the website www.stybeckfarm.co.uk  It is 5 miles from Keswick and 7 miles from Grasmere.  The Kings Head pub is 1/4 mile away.
The cost for sole occupancy is 130.00 per night = 13 x 2 = £26.  If I can be bold to suggest that everyone pay £30 and I will cook a chill/rice/garlic bread for the Friday night and buy any breakfast stuff we may require.
Meanwhile, keep your eye open for when the entries open for both races.
