Entries are supposed to open on the SIE website tomorrow Mon 9th. These English races usually fill up very quickly.

This doesn't show on SIE entries yet. Found this message on the Mercia website:

I have been a little busy with other things I'm afraid and haven't quite managed to get the entries open yet. Please bear with me while I get it sorted out with SI. It will be sometime this week and there will be a notice here and on the front page of the FRA website to advise that entries have opened.

It is worth noting that my limit is 550 entries, which will end up with a manageable total of around 400 runners on the day. We have no limit imposed upon us so I can stretch this a little if necessary, but WE HAVE NEVER YET HAD A CHAMPS RACE FILL IN SHROPSHIRE. Don't panic!

Please note, in order to get this sorted I will not be answering emails on the subject until I have the entries open. I don't mean to be rude, I just have a lot on and need to prioritise. Thanks for bearing with me.

Richard good stuff! I counted at least 8 Harrier names, so a good effort.

There is another Long Mynd race on Feb 5th. Details here: http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=4826

Is anyone planning to use this a reccie? I'm up for it if others are.

Cheers

This race is well worth a reccie as a large section is off 'path' and route choice is critical. The first 7 miles remains fairly 'easy' to follow and is fairly open running, but with the moving of some checkpoints in recent years, the last few miles is navigation and route choice. Don't chase off thinking its an easy run, as the last few miles and hills will leave you crying with leg killing climbs and descents! The last climb and descent has a major change compared to recent years too, with a very steep/slippy descent to the finish line, giving entertainment to those already finished!

Dan is spot on, and for many years the leaders at half way had set off too fast and invariably finished outside the top 20.

Also get the nav right, I managed to come off the last hill on the wrong side once, not recommended unless.you reckon the race is 3 or 4 miles too short for you.

Not spotted a map/CP's for this as yet. They will have marshalls around the course and a lot of runners so will be long line tikk people thin out towards the end.

Don't let Dan and me put you off, it's a great race, but many folk think Shropshire is flat, it ain't.

I'm sure the champs race will have many out, but not everyone, like me for instance, knows where they're going.

You'll have fun !

Barry / Kath there is another Long Mynd race this Sunday - Feb 5th. Details here: http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=4826

That might be an option. If not then I'm up for something closer to the race itself.

Cheers
