Sunday 12th February 2017

Postby Julie Gardner » Mon Feb 06, 2017 7:13 pm

Based on John Williams Christmas orienteering event I am organising a 2 hour score event for Macclesfield Harriers on the 12th February, but in daylight. The navigation is basic and I think it is within everyones capability. There are 22 controls worth between 1-5 points and they can be found on finger posts and stiles. There are penalities for going over the 2 hours. The mass start will be 9am from the visitors centre in Hayfield and finishing in either Rosies or Millies cafe. There is parking available at the centre (pay) or plenty of spaces on the streets (free). Everyone is welcome and it can be done solo or in groups plus walkers. Please arrive for about 8.45am.

Please bring pen/pencil and a poly bag.

My earlier posting didn't muster up any interest, however if there is half a dozen folk who want a pop then I am happy to organise. If there are no takers and nobody's put forward a route for Sunday then I am happy to lead from Hayfield. There will be numerous options at the end of the 2 hours run if anyone is interested in going out for longer. Likewise if anyone wants to do a 3 hour score then that can be organised.

Please post or email me if you intend doing the event so I know how many maps to order. I checked all the controls prior to John's event and they are all in situ.

I am definatley in. Becca and the dogs are also showing an interest, in which case we would be walking rather than running and going for the more accessible checkpoints

I have 18 people interested, so will be certainly going ahead. The plan is to meet at the visitors centre on the Sett Valley trail between 8.45 and 9.00. There will be a 1 minute walk across the road to Millies cafe where the start and finish will be.

Thanks for that Julie. A typical winter's day out on the hills and dales, a bit wafty at times but quite tolerable. Dennis - our new friend from Mobberely enjoyed himself too.

I must say.... never noticed the numbers before. Bit like the Joe Brown stones. You never know what's so close to you. Got anymore cunning control types up your sleeve Julie? Using Millies as a base worked well.

There's scope to base a future Sunday run or two to visit the controls to see where you should/could have gone.

Mandy and Martin 29
Racheal 29
