9.30 Hathersage. Derbyshire, S32 1AG

We're off to Hathersage this Sunday for something a bit different and a bit more distant. It's a ~2 hour off-road run as usual but from Hathersage. From here there's the possibility to explore Stannage Edge and the surrounding features such as Higgar Tor and Carl Walk but this is up to Andy Skelhorn as he's conjuring up a cunning route to keep us entertained and maybe he'll lead us to the old quarrying areas where incomplete mill stones still litter the moor, left where they were quarried when the market for them collapsed.

Meet and run from the top end of Hathersage High Street where there is limited parking. There is additional parking in side roads. Alternatively meet at Tucker's for a 8.35 departure to car share. Our return time to Macc will be about 1.30.

Hathersage has other attraction besides the outdoors - there are lots of cafes and excellent gear shops, so if you're after some new, quality kit and a cup of tea this is the place to go.

"Hathersage is a popular centre for walkers and rock-climbers, for on its east side the village is overlooked by moorland and a line of gritstone edges of which Stanage Edge is the largest. There are also spectacular tors, such as Higgar Tor, and the enigmatic hillfort at Carl Wark, which has so far defied archaeologists' attempts to date it. Several of the edges were quarried and the area was a major source of millstones for grinding corn and metals".
