Shaun Wilde will be shortly running three fell taster sessions for Macclesfield Harriers. Please see Shaun's earlier postings on the club website and Facebook for details. To compliment these sessions an intermediate fell group will be going out for several weeks on a Wednesday at 19.00 hrs. It will be a separate group from the regular Wednesday night group, but will be fully supported by the minimum of 3 experienced runners.

The dates and locations are as follows:

5/4 - Trentabank car park, Macclesfield Forest
12/4 - Poachers, Bollington
19/4 - Quarry car park, Hayfield *
26/4 - Stanley Arms, Wildboarclough
3/5 - No run, but we will help out at the Rainow 5 fell race and see what goes on at a race *
10/5 - Cragg Inn, Wildboarclough
17/5 Swan Inn, Kettleshulme *

* club championship races.

All runs will be approximately 1 1/4 hrs and we will try to touch on areas covered in the taster sessions. Please try to car share.

It is the usual practise after a Wednesday night run to retire to a nearby pub and discuss all things to do with fell. This is a good way to get to know other club members, whom you may have never seen before.

Your usual running attire will suffice, but I strongly recommend to bring waterproofs, hat, gloves and maybe a head touch for the first couple of runs. It goes without saying that road shoes will not do the job. If you don't want to break the bank or you are uncertain if fell running is for you, then I can recommend Moremile Cheviot 3s. At £30.00 a bargain for a reasonable starter or training shoe. http://m.moremile.co.uk/footwear.html

At the end of the several nights out we can sit down and discuss "where to go next". Some suggestions are the excellent Staffordshire Moorland Summer Series, the club championship races or maybe move up and go out with the regular group on Wednesday nights.

If there are any of our regular fell runners who would like to help out at any of the above nights, could you please let us know which ones and in what capacity - lead, support or backmarker.

Julie Gardner and Graham Brown, club fell captains.
