9.30 St Dunstan's Pub, Langley. Half a Handicap Recce Run with Emma.

Meet outside the pub - park anywhere you can!

Part of the Handicap race route

It's the famous Phil Handicap run in 3 weeks time (Sunday 10th Dec), Over 14 miles there's plenty of places to get lost and waste your expensive handicap rating so a recce of the first half of the route this Sunday is just what you need.

Another recce on one of the next 2 weeks will cover the rest of the route from the Cat & Fiddle back to Langley, including the sweetie tree variant, (Phil - what is the penalty this year for missing out the sweetie tree?).

Of course - there's nothing stopping those adventurous souls from carrying on and doing the whole lot if someone can lead it.

The good news is.... Emma is leading this run so thank her profusely for getting you round and buy her a cup of tea afterwards.

Tucker

Inspired by Tucker’s wittering’s on the fell handicap, Johnny and Donworkin, ventured out from Broadcar Rd, to tackle a section of the route in reverse- aiming to cut-off via the Peak-View Cafe, into the Clough, Peak Forest, then the last climb up Tegg’s.
Conditions were magic, with frost and bright sunshine throughout the endeavour. We knew others would be starting from The Dunston P.H. from this feed so, we had a vague idea we may sight one another later on and, if by Magic? there they were about to climb the stile opposite the Cafe: Johnny eye’d them first as we headed down on the farm track that meets the main road. They weren’t a large group as one expected but one that was big enough to be entertained throughout the duration. Needlessly to say Johnny( 69)’s pace quickened as he thought they hadn’t noticed us,( he was right) and dashed down lower fields to make contact, which he duly did, then Donworkin, a little later.
Barry (70), was amongst this frisky group, as was Mark, Emma, and a few others I just can’t put a name to ( dementia? ) but noticed Barry had taken the lead so thought; Barry being Barry, anything can happen so, we had a chance of staying in some form of contact; which we duly did till Toot Hill. Where our paths took different ways: they, presumably, down hill to Langley, and us on a roller-coaster back to Broadcar via Tegg’s Nose.

So, all in all a very beneficial outing: 11. 5 miles, 3 hours, and approx 2,000ft of climb.

For the others it’s anyone’s guess, but they were just cruising. :D
