Evening Orienteering Score Event- ideal practice for anyone taking part Phil Cheek's navigation course and the Polly Lander Trophy orienteering event on 13 June.
Car parking – On lane adjacent to the Robin Hood , Rainow (GR952763) so that we do not inconvenience other pub customers.
Mass Start at 7pm
Registration – In pub car park. Opens 6.15pm. Please register by 6.45pm.
Format - like previous years and similar to MDOC Countryside score events.
Premarked map with questionnaire sheet – questions will be something like “number on telegraph post N side of path? ……” All on public rights of way. The Macclesfield-Whaley Bridge road is Out of Bounds. Decide your own routes, which controls to visit and get back in 90 mins.
90 mins maximum. Points deducted for taking more than 90 mins. Lose all points if more than 10 mins late.
Bring a pen and a plastic bag for your map although maps and questionnaire will be printed on waterproof paper. It still gets soggy and difficult to write on when very wet.
Kit – waterproofs, compass, whistle.
Afterwards – In the pub - the even more keenly contested Post Mortem + The Legendary Prizegiving
Enter - Individually or in pairs etc. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone not used to this type of event may feel more confident doing it as one of a pair, and might find it more fun.
Help needed on the night - I will need a bit of help on the night with registration and parking and at the finish. Please let me know if you can help.
