This week Hazel has laid on a run full of interest, scenic views and sunny weather for a fantastic time in the countryside - not to be missed.

A run in the Upper Derwent Valley where the Dambusters practised, taking in the architectural magnificence of the Dams, the reservoirs, moors, cloughs, abandoned farms and where the village of Derwent was submerged. This will be a longer Sunday run than usual, approximately 9 to 12 miles (the 9 miles cutting the route slightly shorter if necessary) but it will be a slow run suitable for everyone so we can appreciate the beauty and history of the area. (Yes Chris, it will be slow!) Afterwards there is an outdoor concession at the main car park or the option of several cafes in the Hope Valley. The forecast at the moment is still for hot and dry so bring plenty of water and suncream.

Meet at Fairholmes Visitor Centre, postcode S33 0AQ or Grid Reference (Dark Peak map) SK173 895 at 9.30am. There is a pay and display car park, but also free parking along the valley. If you want to use the free parking give yourself time to walk down to the Visitor Centre

At the time of writing the Fire Severity Index is at 4. When it reaches 5 all the Peak District moors will automatically be shut under the CROW Act. Although this could happen overnight, it does not affect public rights of way. As a result, I have planned the route completely on public rights of way. At the moment there is a fire at Warslow Moors, one in the Goyt and of course Saddleworth area and Winter Hill. The Fire Service is continually being called to smaller fires.

Sounds absolutely fabulous unfortunately I am not able to join you this week.

Hope everyone has a great time and watch out for low flying Lancaster bombers!
