A special trip this Sunday to Hathersage where the longer drive makes it worthwhile for the sights to be seen as Hazel describes below.
Hazel is leading an approximate 8 mile run on the Hathersage moors taking in Longshaw Estate, Carl Wark, Higger Tor, Fiddler's Elbow and a short section of Stanage Edge. The autumn colours are stunning at the moment and the ground still relatively dry. At the moment the forecast is cold and sunny so remember hats (buffs) and gloves.
Stanage Edge
Hathersage is a popular centre for walkers, runners and rock-climbers, for on its east side the village is overlooked by moorland and a line of gritstone edges of which Stanage Edge is the largest. There are also spectacular tors, such as Higgar Tor, and the enigmatic hillfort at Carl Wark, which has so far defied archaeologists' attempts to date it. Several of the edges were quarried and the area was a major source of millstones for grinding corn and metals.
Meet 9.30 am at the top end of Hathersage where there is some parking. There is further parking on the road leading up to the church and Sportsman pub. There is also a pay and display car park in the middle of Hathersage near the swimming pool. Afterwards there are one or two cafes in Hathersage to choose from. Hathersage has some serious gear shops so if you need some specialist kit or want for some good gear fondling - this is the place! Bring your membership cards for any organisation that could get you discounts.
Meet at tucker's if convenient for a 8.35 departure. Best to car share to make parking easier.

The open air swimming pool at Hathersage is open Sunday so bring your kit & towel if you fancy a bit of cross-training. Closed from 12.00 - 1.00.
