Don't forget the the Scamper-O on Wednesday evening
It's back again - with a New Area, a new planner! Julie Gardner.
The Maytime Scamper-O Evening Orienteering Score Event
Ideal warm-up for the Polly Lander on 20 June.
Car parking – On the lane leading from the Whaley Bridge to Chapel-en-le-Frith road (B5470) to the Beehive, Combs village (GR 041784),
Please park tidily with consideration for local residents and pub regulars.
Mass Start at 7pm
Registration – Opens 6.15pm. Please register by 6.45pm.
Format - like previous years, and similar to MDOC Countryside score events.
Premarked map with questionnaire sheet.
A4 map is approx.1:22,000 scale and the A3 map is approx. 1:15,000.
Questions will be something like “number on telegraph post N side of path? ……” On public rights of way. Decide your own routes, which controls to visit and get back in 90 mins.
90 mins maximum. Points deducted for taking more than 90 mins. Lose all points if more than 10 mins late.
Entry on the day - but we will be conducting a straw poll nearer to the day to estimate how many maps we need to print.
Enter Individually or in pairs etc. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone not used to this type of event may feel more confident doing it as one of a pair, and might find it more fun.
Bring a pen and plastic bag for your map although maps and questionnaire will be printed on waterproof paper. It still gets soggy and difficult to write on when very wet.
Kit – Trail shoes, waterproofs, compass, whistle.
Road safety - some of the routes between controls involve the use of country lanes used by motor traffic. Take care!
Afterwards – In the Beehive pub – for the post mortem + legendary Prizegiving.
Food in the pub – We will be too late for the pub to be cooking individual orders but you share in the communal order for chips and baps served in the pub after the event - if you pay £3 when registering..
Entry fee? – Free
