The first people have been out today (Mon 23/12) and Julie has asked me to post the following...

Lessons learned today by 3 casualties:-

1. Write correct grid reference down.
2. Read the cover sheet carefully before setting out and take a copy with you. You will be out several hours and the "swag" is at control 10.
3. The stakes are carefully placed so a glance may not suffice.
4. Using 6 figure grid references covers 100 square metres, but control description should be on the map eg footbridge.
5. Yes control 3 is inside the shallow cave.

A quick update from Julie and Brian about the GR for Control 8. The figures on the stakes should be amended today (28/12) but if not then...

Please note that at control 4 (where routes divide) and at control 7 (long course) that Eastings for control 8 should read 029 followed by Northings 6 ? 0.

Apologies for the confusion (the stake was moved slightly).

Neil

I just do not believe it ( in the tone of Victor Meldrew). I have literally just got back from completing the Long Choc O but was clearly stumped at control 8, as the white stake was nowhere to be found. After 30 mins of resectioning the area, I had to resort to local knowledge and also get inside the heads of Julie/Brian! Without giving anything away I successfully located the final control point and logged my trip. Scoffed a choccie biccie and had a couple of other chocolates as well.

What an epic!!

Dave...well done. Julie and Brian checked everything but this change did not make the final placement and numbering. They are away otherwise they would have corrected it asap. They are most apologetic. Rob Gittins has now corrected the numbering on 4 and 7 to give the correct reference for 8.

Neil

It was not a problem for me at all. I still had a good run albeit it was slightly more challenging!

I really appreciate the effort to put these events on and really enjoyed the open access elements - saw lots of wildlife, once the clag lifted.
