Teggs Nose Fell Race - job assignments

Postby thebunyans » Mon Jul 30, 2007 9:25 pm

Thanks for all the offers of help, I now have the minimum I need... here are the provisional job assignments...

Friday night course setup – Barry Blyth, Dave Tucker, Warren Mason, John Bunyan

Saturday – course setup/check - anyone fancy a jog round?

Entries – Nancy Bunyan, Julie Fletcher

Marshalls –

My phone number on the day is: 07717 030903
Can all marshalls please get a yellow bib from me. I will bring some to Wed night run if you want to go straight to your positions on Saturday.
Please check course markers as much as possible in your vicinity.

Positions are shown on this map.

A: Exit gate from field – sheepdog people

B: Road junction – Bullock Lane/Byrons Lane – Martin Rands, Phil Cheek, + police. Stop traffic for outward run, warn traffic/runners on return.

C: Jarman Road/Jarman Farm – Jack Leach - ensure they leave the road at the correct point! Then importantly on return ensure they do not run straight onto the road into the path of cars.

D: Gates in Jarman Farm – Warren Mason - all gates can be opened for the duration of the race. Please CLOSE them all afterwards.

E: Gate in Pyegreave Farm – Mandy Calvert - tell runners to stick to marked route through hay field. NO shortcuts!

F: Gate at border of Pygreave and Higher Bleaklow farm – Pete Nolan - beware of livestock/electric fence. On return tell runners to stick to marked path through hay field. Re-assemble gate after last runner through.

G: Coal Pit Lane 1 – Larry Day - open gate, close gate after race.

H: Coal Pit Lane 2 - Joanne - direct runners up towards Teggs Nose farm, ensure they don't run into traffic on return.

I: Gate in Teggs Nose (take off hinge) – Steve Mees - old gate does not open, has to be lifted off hinges. Watch for livestock in field.

J: Bottom of field/Crookedyard Road - Woody - gate should open at bottom of field. Watch for livestock.

K: Exit from lane back into Teggs Nose park – Dave Tucker

L: Top of climb (stile) – Dave Walker

Sweep: Jon Tatham

Timekeeping – Colin Ardron, Bryan MacFadyen, Angela Leonard

Results – Nancy Bunyan, Julie Fletcher

- it's going to be a lot of effort if the only entries are Nancy and Julie.
Still, who's your money on??
- although John has already put Nancy ahead of Julie in the results !!

Thanks to all the marshalls and helpers. The results are up on the main website.

Was that Steve Lomas that led a few runners astray?....

I need a beer....

Thanks for a great race John and thanks to all the marshals.
Glad I didn't go to Borrowdale. They missed Scafell Pike out because of the weather!

Yes, it was me; I can't say what went wrong really, all I know was that
I eventually realised - when approaching Buxton Old Road (I think that's what it's called) - that I was running in the wrong direction.
I stopped and turned round and said to the other three runners that had followed me that we were 'wrong'. We turned back up the hill and ran for approximately 20 metres and then one of them said, "we might as well carry on round the way we were going (the wrong way) until we re-join the route".
So that's what we did. This procedure involved running down Buxton Old Road and then up Coalpit Lane before re-joining the race.
I've run in this general area before of course, but I don't think I've run in that precise region very much. So that's my excuse!

They`re turning into a load of wimps up here in Cumbria,it`s a bit drizzly but it`s not been a bad day, light rain, warm,& not too windy. Can`t imagine why they`d shorten it.......but then I can`t imagine how anyone could go off-course on as well marked a fell race route as Teggs!!!!!!
