Everest Base Camp to Kathmandu

As reported by John Bunyan on the Macc website home page, all best wishes to Mark Hartell, Lizzy Hawker and Stephen Pyke on their mega mountain run.

I could not help thinking that the Planet Fear website article about how to look after your feet may be useful revision and of interest to anybody else contemplating doing long things like the Karrimor soon. The gory pics are great and you can compare your previous blisters with those photographed to estimate the degree of suffering.

The best tip is to inject iodine into your blisters while holding your breath and biting on a leather strap.

Quite right Herr Tucker but a slight correction is in order:
"whilst biting on a leather strap"; should read: whilst biting on a leather jock strap".
By this means you will be oblivious to any pain howsoever inflicted.

The attempt starts today

Just a reminder that Mark, Steve, and Lizzie start their attempt today.

As yet - no one has heard from them yet, but I'm sure we'll hear from them once they reach Kathmandu on Saturday/Sunday.

Further to Colin's point about the jockstrap, I think the person wearing it is likely to suffer a bit though....

They made it !!

Postby mudskimmer » Sun Oct 28, 2007 2:29 pm

Spyke and Lizzie Hawker today achieved the record in 3 days, 2 hours 35 minutes. Mark dropped out after 2 days (no details).
Mark, Karen, and Lizzie all made it up Ama Dablam - Spyke had a chest infection.
They are now all safe and well in Kathamandu obviously celebrating - they are back in blighty on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Well done everyone!
