Polly

Lots of you know Polly(Chris Cripps` girlfriend) from her support on various BGs & PBs over the last couple of years
Sad to relate she`s very recently been diagnosed with Leukaemia. The good news is they`ve ot it very early & the prognosis is encouraging. The bad news is she`s undergoing Chemo-first dose well under way as I write this- and will be in and out of hospital for the next 6 months.
Chris is dashing back & forth to Newcastle to see her & luckily the specialist unit is close to her family & old school friends so she`s not short of visitors..
If anyone`s in the area & wants to drop in I`m sure she`d love to see you(BUT because she & fellow patients have weakened immune systems not if you`ve got an infection or have just come down off the fells covered in sheeps..t).She`s in....
Ward8
Royal Victoria Hospital
Queen Victoria Road
Newcastle on Tyne
NE1 4LP
I spoke to her last night & she certainly hasn`t lost her sense of humour & says she`s not feeling too bad.
PS If anyone gets the opportunity to get young Chris out on the hill over the coming weeks that would be good news as well.

Sad News. I will be organising to send Polly some nice flowers & a card ( which I will endeavour to get everyone who wants to sign ) on behalf of the fell section of the club. So anyone who would like to contribute please cross my palm with your silver.
Craig.

And me, and best wishes Polly, our thoughts are with you. Something's not fair somewhere.

(Chris - come and run Tanky's !)

Being a sadist I`d love to see Chris do a Tanky`s,particularly in his current state of (UN)fitness,& preferably with a weather forecast like Sunday`s.
Having said that he did do 2 biggish days on the BG route a couple of weeks ago as part of Kirsty`s familiarisation for her attempt next summer. He`s a bit of a sadist as well,he took the poor girl over the Pike in a full-on November gale.....& made her do Lords Rake & West Wall!
I`ll make sure Polly gets your best wishes but won`t mention the card/flowers so they`ll be a nice surprise for her.

Thank you all very much. I'm off to see her tomorrow so will let you know how she's doing. Unfortunatly the ward doesn't accept flowers as they can carry bugs. But if I may suggest, Green and Blacks always goes down well!
As for the Pike and Lords rake. That was nowt compared to a rather greasy Halls Fell ridge in the thick clag and dusk on Sunday.
Cheers

No flowers - what a load of pseudo bugology. Next thing you know they'll be stopping visitors!!
Tell her to not eat too much G&B, bad for the digestion.

Even as I posted my last I did wonder about flowers on the ward etc...
Oh well, Nice chocolates it is then !. Perhaps flowers will be more acceptable when Polly's back home.
Good to see so many really positive posts from folk. Lets have a few more please!.

Update

Postby Northern Chris » Mon Dec 03, 2007 7:36 pm

Just to let you all know so far so good. She finished the first dose of drugs on Saturday morning and now they are keeping an eye on her and reguarly monitoring her blood levels. She's no immune system which is what they wanted to see. Over the next week her counts will rise and stabilise and with a bit of luck she'll be out for Christmas. With a couple of weeks recovery before she starts the second round. Although she was allowed out for half an hour yesterday to go shopping!!

Hi Chris

I was shocked and stunned when I heard about Polly, however, I am pleased she has responded well to her first lot of treatment. Tell her she's got to get well soon, as I want to hear that lovley singing she was talking about on Digby's Bob Graham!

Take care both of you, enjoy Xmas as much as you can, and I hope that 2008 will be a much better year for you.

Julie,come off it!!!
I know she`s not well & needs our sympathy but please DON`T encourage her to sing. It`s a bit like a nuclear weapon & must be kept for the direst emergency like someone on the last climb of a BG needing to find a bit extra from somewhere.
The news this weekend is that Polly hopes to be out of hospital over Xmas, probably staying in Gosforth. The not so good bit is that she needs a bone-marrow transplant,I`m not sure what the timescale is for that.
