Amerie is fell runner!

Postby Philip Barnes » Mon Feb 04, 2008 12:55 pm

As I was walking round the Long Mynd yesterday, this song came through the earpiece. I think the lyrics are very apropo!

Sometimes it's gonna be days like this
Sometimes it's gonna be rain like this
Sometimes you're gonna feel pain like this
Sometimes you gotta work hard for it

Because when u feeling low
And u cant get no lower
Thats when u know your close
Sometimes u gotta work hard for it

Woke up in the morning
It's another cloudy day
But that never mattered too much to me
Cause its still a new beginning
And I know I got it in me
Had my share of ups and downs
But now I know I can do anything

Sometimes the road may seem too far
You never really know for sure
If you're ever gonna make it
Sometimes the end may seem so far
You never really know for sure
If u got the strength to make it

Anybody got better lyrics for a fell race?

So whats the Song & by who ?. Perhaps a little more concentration on the running & a little less on the fine lyrics would see you crossing the finish line sooner !. Sorry Phil, but just far too obvious a suggestion.
Really enjoyed yesterday, I felt like a runner again ( after months of illness though my croaky voice it would appear will never recover - guess some of you will consider that a blessing ) The Lovely Janet only ran off & away from me at the end ( because she could & is competetive like that ). Excellent performance from a new "slimmer lines" Larry Day who had the cheek to pass me twice & ask if "I was allright". He didn't seem to appreciate my " instant heat of the moment expert" view that he had "gone off too fast & that he would pay the price". He did in the end but not to heavily - Fine effort Larry & I will buy you a pint. Soon you will be rock climbing better than me as well no doubt !.
Barry's form of 07 would seem to be if anything improving - The rest of the Macc contingent never saw him !.
Surprised not to see more members running, those who did will doubtless confirm the races quality with 3 huge steep climbs in the last third of the race. Plenty of folk who go off to fast suffer on those slopes.
Also a change to run at this time of year & not have revolting black peaty shoes & feet !.

These words were penned whilst simmering along with some parsnips and mutton. You can put your own music to it.

As I were gowing up Shutlingsloe,
Leaning in t'wind,
I 'eard a plaintiff cry,
It were Alan - nibblin' behind.

He caught me up and pondered,
Could this be nearly t' top,
I said nay lad don't be soft i t'head,
It's nobbut a rocky outcrop.

We laboured on in't rain and snaw,
Our tights were soppin' wet.
O when will't end come into sight,
Not now, not then, not yet.

Tell me now, O tell me,
Can we stop and 'ave some sup?
Eee stop meithering lad and dig in deep,
Wiv nearly finished t'up.

We wavered and we wobbled,
Our knees fair near gave out,
But you can't stop an owd fell runner
When he's got his er, rag out.

On reaching t'end we both looked down,
At trusty studs on't feet,
There were slutch and clarts you'd never seen,
Ah but it were greet.

As we sat later in Rona's caff
Eatin us bread and jam,
We was 'appy, glad and right well spent,
At being a fell running man.

Glad to see the Beneficial Dictator is still vying for the position of Diplomatic Ambassador to the United Nations!
Actually, 3 weeks without sleep due to chest infection and carrying a groin injury I feel is a more pertinent rationale for my poor performance! Still, thanks for the words of encouragement.

phil,
We all love your wit ,wisdom & company(though the philosiphical stuff in the Woodbine was a bit much) BUT there`s conversation, skylarks(heard a couple today on Anglezark, the earliest ever this far north) & lots more.
PLEASE throw away that walkman(or should that be runman?) and get into the fells properly.Otherwise someone will enter you in a road marathon!!!!!!

"carrying a groin injury" ......... well I have to say that groins are a foreign country to me, but you might try placing it on the ground and seeing if it will run by itself. You could be pleasantly surprised.

Walkman !! bloody hell Phil they've long since been replaced by MP3's and other gismos'.

You are of course right - running in the country is about enjoying your surroundings, birdsong etc. however I have to correct you on one point - conversation?
When those of us 'of limited running ability' (I think that was the recently used phrase) find ourselves at the back of the pack for whatever reason, there is usually an absence of conversation, usually due to a lack of people to converse with; unless muttering and swearing to yourself counts.
As for groins......I for one would pay good money (well sixpence) to see one get up and run off if placed on the ground

Sorry, but a hoover is still a hoover & a modern gismo walkman is surely still a walkman even if most people can`t ever hope to use a modern one!!

The earphones just don't fit my big floppy ears, but I would love to listen to some music - possibly Bach

No No No.....a hoover is a vacuum cleaner, and a walkman is a personal stereo, and an iPod an MP3 player - I've never seen anyone out running trying to listen to music from a vacuum cleaner.
