Broad Stand,

Those of you in the Lakes on Saturday will have seen & heard the rescue chopper & maybe seen the Wasdale MR team while you were around the Pike & Eskdale.
Sadly the guy they were recovering went about 100 feet off Broad Stand & didn`t make it.
Broad Stand is apparently claiming more casualties than anywhere else.
A warning to all BG aspirants.

My understanding is that the team were descending Broad Stand with no ropes oe head gear. It really doesn't take too much of slip to end in disaster. :(

Tragic

Didn't notice the chopper but we had discussed our collective experiences of this route on saturday.

I certainly wouldn't won't be planning on going this way

Cheers Steve

It gets worse. The victim left a wife & 2 young children.
Apparently they had to leave the body in a bag on the fell for some hours because they had another rescue of a live casualty to deal with.
Sobering stuff & I guess we`re all aware of our debt to the MR,helicopters(those guys were hovering for minutes on end over Mickledore with no wind,so an engine failure on that clapped out Sea King would have dumped them) and if we go sea the RNLI.
