I`ve discovered something from Garmin that might be useful for those who use GPS as an occasional back-up.
If your GPS has not been used for a month or so it may not "acquire" satellites promptly.Apparently the satellite "almanac" that it uses goes out of date & so it can`t acquire.It has to wait until a satellite transmits an almanac update,which can be up to an hour if you`re unlucky.
So don`t wait till you need it. Turn it on & leave it to acquire before you go out,then it`s ok for another few weeks.
