Summer Evening Rock Climbing - Thursday Nights

Postby Beneficial Dictator » Mon Feb 18, 2008 10:50 pm

Many members know that a few of us have for the last couple of summers done some climbing on local crags on Thursday nights. This year I am formalising a list of venues to encourage a few more folk to attend.
Venues that I would look to attend at least once over the season :-

Gritstone Crags.
1. Windgather - 3rd April Craig & Larry were out. Cold & damp.
2. Castle Naze -10th April Rained off.
3. Roaches Lower Tier. - 17th April Craig & Larry were out. Cold & Dryish.
4. Roaches Upper Tier. - 24th April Rained Off.
5. Five Clouds. - 1st May Actually climbed on far right end of Roaches Upper Tier. Craig, Mark Hartell & Larry were out. Cold windy but dry.
6. Hen Cloud. - 8th May. Craig can't make it due to Club Committee Meet.
7. Back Forest. -15th May. Craig can't make it away in Snowdonia.
8. Ramshaw Rocks. - 22nd May
9. Gradbach Hill. - 29th May

Limestone Crags.
10. Aldery Cliff, Earl Sterndale. - 5th June
11. Staden Quarry. - 12th June
12. Harpur Hill Quarry. Sport Clip ups. - 19th June
13. Blackwell Halt Area. Cheedale. Sport Clip Ups. - 26th June
14. Smalldale, Crystal & Going Straight Walls. Sport Clip Ups. - 3rd July
15. Plum Buttress. Cheedale. - 10th July

If it rains on any of these nights then we will endeavour to visit the proposed venue in the later part of the summer ie. beyond this list of dates

Fair to say most of the Limestone venues offer only harder routes but there are quite a few folk around the club these days who are capable of them.

It would be good if folk who were interested in attending let me know by posting here or give me a call or mention it to me when you see me next.
Novices are not excluded but we would need to make provision for you kit wise & control numbers to ensure you are looked after properly.
Anyone with any thoughts or ideas ?.

Okay just to bump this subject up to the top of the forum. Its the first night tonight & Larry Day & myself will be at Windgather rocks tonight ( baring rain ) from around 6.20pm. All welcome but wrap up well.
Note I have now put dates to all the various venues above, if you need details of where some of the more unusual ones are where to park etc... let me know.

I think there might be one thing I can lead there - plus, of course, there is the opportunity to do a John Amies route -shifters quid or similar - so I Plan to be there on Thursday (unless its snowing).

Anyone else. I'm on 0780 191 7282.

Well it could do with warming up a bit but Larry & I have made it out for 2 of the last 3 Thurs nights. The other was rained off. Mark ( Longerisbetter ) didn't show but I can hardly blame him as it was a bit Brass monkeys. I have edited & will continue to edit my original post & list of venues so anyone interested keep an eye on it.
Cheers, Craig.

Larry since we went to Five Clouds a few weeks ago on the Tuesday night I am suggesting we go to Roaches Upper Tier tonight ( which was the venue for last week but rained off ). Same parking spot. Mark Hartell was also saying he will be on for it but I have not managed to speak to him yet today. Roaches Upper Tier has a bigger selection of routes in the steadier grades for both of you. Will call or text you later.
Anyone else out their is welcome. Lets hope the rain holds off.
Cheers. Craig.
