Flying the flag in Bowland

Postby brown dwarf » Sun Mar 23, 2008 4:54 pm

Finding myself with mother in Garstang (20mins drive from Fell Foot) over the w/e, had to try Fiendsdale. This is my first 'proper' fell race since LD Trial 06; I thought 7.5m/2500ft in Bowland (not an area I know very well) can't be that hard, gentle rolling hills, climb probably overestimated, weather should be charming etc. Oops - as tough a race as I've ever had and in severe weather (at times). Well worth the effort though and superb organisation from BFR; I since learn that it was a British counter a few years ago.
Wonderful mix of terrain - marsh, peat hags, spectacular combes (esp.in driving snow/hail), rock fields and some vicious climbs, plus a few tracks; some interesting route choices but I was concentrating on finishing not winning and tended to follow the 'larger crowd'! Probably finished in lower half but pleased to finish! Anyway, I flew the flag for MH up there in the Forest (others? results not out yet).
A steep learning curve.

Nice one BD. I did this a few years ago and found it a tough but enjoyable race. Keep 'em coming.

This was the first race I ever did, back 2005. I've been politicing to get it in the club champs. I thinks its a cracker.
Though these avatars are fun, it would be good to know who we are talking to

I've been using my real name for years but some people insist on comparing me to a root vegetable - can't think why?

Red/Brown it makes no difference to me. White or Black I'm OK on. Either way I don't think I would spot a 3 ft "coloured dwarf. Might have mistaken you for one of those wooden Owls in Macc Forest if you stopped to tie your laces.

If we are going to get really anorakky, would that by any chance be the same 2m1207b that is just around the corner (173 light years away), and is known throughout Cerebus for its hot proto planet afterglow.

Andy had a hot proto planet afterglow after hitting the stile on Wednesday evening in full flight whilst trying to slow down from high speed in the dark on slimy mud. Ask to see the bruises as they nicely develop from a red dwarf into black holes and beyond

I know a good dealer in scrap metal who might be interested in JB. Its removal would also have the added benefit of annuling the no development zone in the vicinity of the scope, thereby opening the way to the building of a massive eco town.
