Mark, seem to remember your original question was what single pair of shoes will get me started in fell running & work reasonably well for everything.

Montrail Highlanders fit that bill ( in my & several other club members opinions ) as they have reasonably good studs for off trail grip & a good amount of cushioning for stoney tracks & are okay on the unavoidable stretches of tarmac. They last pretty well also ie. you get a lot of miles out of them. The other Montrail shoes do better on stoney firm tracks but are pretty useless on the fells / hills if it is at all wet or damp / boggy ground.

Shoe choice is a very personal opinion & there are lots on the market these days. Running Bear at Alderley Edge stock most of the brands ( but not Montrails ) - Walsh, Inov8, Addidas, Running Bear own brand all have there devotees. Go and try some on & buy what fit you best. For true out & out Fell racing shoes where grip is all & cushioning less important I would suggest the best are Walsh Elite Trainer / Extreme or Inov8 330. You won't get as big a mileage out of these shoes though ( compared to Highlanders ) as the studs wear down relatively quickly.

True Fell shoes tend to feel narrow to folk who haven't worn them before - they are made so they hopefully won't rotate on the foot when wet & contouring.
Montrails are sold at Camp 4 in Macc as stated in previous post.
Both shops offer 10% discretionary discount to club members.

Hope to see you out in new shoes soon.
Enjoy your Running !.
Craig.

I'm sure you mean the Innov8 330 Mudclaw not to be confused with the Innov8 330 Terroc which is a Trail/Walking shoe!

Wellies are not for everyone so may I suggest an alternative footwear for gliding across muddy terrain?
