New website architecture

Postby thebunyans » Fri Feb 03, 2006 11:47 pm

I'm playing with a possible new way of generating the website. The prototype can be viewed here:
http://www.mh.k313.com/mh/index.php
The main change is that all the articles are stored in a database and the pages are dynamically generated (by a tool called joomla... hence the credit). I'm finding that since we get regular contributions now, once I take something off the front page I'm not sure where to save it. This way I can easily archive articles but still have them accessible.
Let me know what you think! - or if you see any layout problems (I mainly test use firefox).

EDIT: I've also added a proper photo album gallery too....

John

and looks good to me too - the website is an important part of the Club's publicity and also a means for members to keep up to date with what's going on. And thanks also for giving me the opportunity to post utter drivel on the forum.

I've just added a new photo album link into the prototype "new site". The fell runners will find some of Brian's photos from the Howgills there...

New Website

Postby Stephen Watts » Thu Mar 23, 2006 10:09 am

Dear JB
New web site looks very good, but how do I look at all the sections of the Fell bit? There used to be a menu down the left hand side with subjects like 'Fell Championship' etc, but that seems to have gone. Is there another way to see the fell champs table for example? I'm sure its just me, but I would welcome your help. :?

You guys are right about the championship tables etc. I haven't relinked them into the new site yet. I've mainly been concentrating on getting the site setup to handle the dynamic/news content.

I will add the latest fell champs table (and road table) as a static menu items on the left hand side of their respective sections.

would it be possible to make the scroll bar on the forum latest section of the homepage longer. unless you've got the harriers page as your own homepage, its very easy to miss use{less)full running info by not logging on for a few days, especially when mr turnip gets going, it takes up all of the slots on the list!

Far be it from me to take up all the slots - I leave that to a certain tall bearded gentleman.
Besides I can't think why you might want to read anything other than my terse and meaningful comment.
By the way have you ever tried Turnip au Gratin?
