It would be for all abilities, perhaps setting off in groups of 4 or 5 with individual times recorded.
A mile is meant to be the best way to predict other races times and as it's a short distance it's ideal for all ages.
Perhaps the word Championship should be just 'Time Trial' - but it could be considered a way of recording a PB at this distance and trying to better it each year.
I am not sure when the next meeting of the road running group leaders is planned for but maybe this is an idea you could bring along? One thing to think about is how each group (A, B, C, D, Beginner) would benefit from it and feel included.
If I hear about the next meeting I will let you know.
Cheers - I'd personally ask runners to estimate their time and group runners accordingly. The first event would be all about setting yourself a target, then each year see how you've improved. More of a personal challenge complete with a bit of friendly competition for the Roger Bannisters amongst us!
An excellent idea and I hope it happens. I would be prepared to give it a go on the condition that they don't lock the gates to the track before I finish. Cakes sounds good too.
Cheers Mark, I've recently heard about the Marathon Talk idea and I know that Steve Webb (Congleton Harriers / Parkrun) is now planning a Dream Mile around Astbury Mere in early September to coincide with this. I'll share details when I know more.
It would also be great to host our own inter track event.
